It's Maddie and India, preparing for our month-long adventure in Zaragoza, Spain. For almost a year now we have been planning to attend Zaragoza's own Sacred Heart, Sagrado Corazon. We will be spending the first hours of 2010 on a plane traveling 3664 miles away from home. We are prepared to face the inevitable language barrier as Gringas (Americans) in Spain. With the help of six years of Spanish classes and the occasional glance at our Spanish-English dictionaries, we hope to learn and enjoy the people, culture and food of Zaragoza.

Colegio Sagrado Corazon de Jesus: The school we will be attending.

Maddie's First Post

There is less than one week until my flight and I am so excited. Along with the excitement though, there is still the thought of being away from my family and friends for an entire month. It's hard enough being away from home, but I am also anxious about speaking Spanish. Hopefully I will be able to pick it up fast and keep up with Silvia and her family who I will be staying with.

Then there is the issue of my picky eating. I wouldn't say I am not adventurous when it comes to new foods, but there is the drawback of my utter hatred of tomatoes. What do I do when it comes to salsa, paella and other foods that will inevitably be offered? I guess I will have to work on building an immunity to the bitter taste of tomatoes and avoiding my desire to be sick all over the table. I guess I'll have to keep you updated.

Other than these woes, my only other worry is the workload. Along with my stoichiometry corrections and notes I will need to keep updated on, I will also be posting a Spanish entry about two times a week for Sra. Neuman who will hopefully miss India and me while we are away. Hopefully.

So I have a few more days left to pack and worry before India and I get to venture off on an exciting and slightly nerve-wracking adventure.
